If evaluation indicates a meter is to be repaired, then the proper classification must be assigned various factors usually considered, when assigning the repair classification, are described in this section.

Some utilities automatically condemn groups of meters by certain manufacture/size/type immediately after infesting. The following considerations enter into determining such groups:

1. Tin meter: unsuitable for outside sets in some climates; skilled repair personnel unavailable; parts unavailable; temperature correction cannot be added.

2. Repair/replace analysis shows repair uneconomical.

3. Poor performance history, regardless of the extent of repair.

4. Desire to phase out, were small number owned, to decrease parts inventory and to decrease the number of different type meter sets.
