Scope:

This Standard is intended to be read together with the Standard for Rotating Electrical Machines – General Requirements, UL 1004-1. The requirements in this Standard supplement or amend the requirements in UL 1004-1. The requirements of UL 1004-1 apply unless modified by this Standard.

This Standard covers motors that are intended for use in fire pump applications as defined by NFPA 20, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection.

This Standard does not cover the fire pump controller. These controllers are covered by the Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, UL 218.

These requirements do not cover motors intended for use in hazardous locations as defined in the National Electrical Code®, NFPA 70.
