The policies, responsibilities, and procedures given here apply to all salvage and recovery operations conducted by the Department of the Navy.

Purpose

To provide implementation policy for salvage and recovery operations involving U.S goverment ships, cargo, aircraft, and other objects, such as space vehicles, nose cones, and weapons.

To provide implementation policy for salvage and recovery services provided to foreign government and other parties, as appropriate.

To assign responsibilities to appropriate commanders for executing this policy.

This instruction has been completely revised and should be read in its entirety.
