Retaining rings to this Standard are securing elements allowed for use on bolts, shafts, ball bearing assemblies and other rotating parts under the following condition;

They shall only be installed in locations protected from the exterior, if possible on all sides.

They shall not rotate relative to their seating. When fitted on rotating or moving parts, clearance shall be sufficient to prevent locking rings from being stripped off.

They shall only be used in assemblies which are not frequently disassembled.

Installation shall be carried out using special tools and following the manufacturer's assembly instructions.

They are designed for the allowable axial load capacities specified in this Standard.
