Scope:

This Standard applies to any individual who maintains, repairs or alters the London Underground traction current power supply and distribution System. This includes those who declare plant unfit/fit for service after maintenance, repair, replacement or overhaul. It also includes those who undertake the manual control of traction current switching in the event of a telecommunication or plant failure. This standard does not include work on telecommunication (SCADA) systems or remote terminal units (this is covered by a separate standard). The London Underground traction current power supply and distribution system is defined as the assets, plant and equipment in substations and on the track that directly controls the supply of 630v DC traction current to the operational railway. (see section 3.4 below) It does not include the 132kV, 22kV or 11kV distribution systems from which the DC traction supplies are derived.

The competence requirements apply to any individual employed within the London Underground Group of companies or their suppliers who carries out this activity, regardless of the job title, grade or position.

This activity constitutes ‘Safety Critical Work' as defined by the Railways (Safety Critical Work) Regulations 1994 in Regulation 2 (1) (b) (iii).

This standard replaces 2-01301-010 A1. The Standard has been re formatted and renumbered. There were no technical changes.

Purpose

The purpose of this Standard is to set out the competence requirements for any individual maintaining, repairing or altering the London Underground traction current power supply and distribution system. This includes the manual control of traction current switching in the event of a telecommunication or plant failure.
