Scope:

This Part/Section of the Defence Standard provides users of standards with a means to identify the originating and issuing authorities of MOD departmental specifications and standards. In addition because of their usage within MOD, or because they are referred to in other related publications, references to various standards and specifications originating from non MOD sources are also included.

For the purpose of the Standard a departmental specification or standard may be broadly defined as those standards and specifications prepared locally by individual authorities either in amplification of an existing British or Defence Standard, or where there is no suitable standard or specification available.

As this Part/Section of the Standard does not purport to list all of the individual standards or specifications that are available the title shown is not necessarily that of an individual standard or specification, but that of a group or series of standards or specifications of similar or related subject matter and produced by any one Branch or authority.
