This Special Publication gives guidelines for quality assurance in the administration and technical operations of a laboratory performing physical or chemical tests. It is intended to assist in developing their quality assurance programs. Laboratories wishing to comply with specific requirements may use these guidelines in conjunction with the requirements where applicable. These guidelines may also be used in conjunction with Quality Program Standards, such as the CAN3-Z299-85 Series in second and third parly certification situations.

Note: Direction is provided in Appendix A of this document on the relationship between guidelines in this publication and the CAN3 2299-85 Series.

This Special Publication does not include the quality assurance of sampling procedures, which are often outside the control of the testing laboratory.

This Special Publication does not specify the health and safety requirements that are important in the operation of laboratories. These requirements should be based upon the prevailing government regulations and/or the recognized practice of the industry.
