scope:
This Defence Standard (Def Stan) defines the detailed procedures for conducting Maintainability Demonstrations (M Demos) for Naval systems, both electronic and mechanical. These procedures can be applied at any stage of a system's development, e.g. design approval, pre-production or in-service, but are particularly suitable for application to identify compliance with Naval Staff Requirements. Under normal circumstances this will be done in a Platform Intrinsic environment.
The approach used in this Def Stan, for electronic systems, makes certain assumptions about the maintainabiliw and reliability characteristics of the system under evaluation. For mechanical systems, the methodology for conducting an M Demo is different as explained in Section 3.1 of this Def Stan.
The procedures laid down in this document are designed to:
establish a standard format to be observed thus ensuring that outputs are readïiy understood by all SM
assist contractors to assess the level of effort expected of them prior to tender submission.
