Preface to the Second Edition
The second edition incorporates the new (2008) WHO
classification of hematopoietic tumors. All chapters have been
significantly expanded including an added chapter on the
immunophenotypic features during normal differentiation of
hematopoietic cells and much more detailed discussion on the role
of flow cytometry in the diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome and
paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. The number of color
illustrations has been increased to better describe the
immunophenotypic features of different neoplasms with emphasis on
typical immunophenotypic features, differential diagnosis, unusual
pattern, and overlapping phenotypic features between different
entities. The phenotypic criteria and statistical data on monocytic
proliferations, acute promyelocytic leukemia, and T-cell disorders
were upgraded to reflect significant number of new cases. Similar
to the first edition, flow cytometry data were correlated with
morphology, immunohistochemistry
