scope:

This guideline describes the state of the art for animal by-products processing plants (in the following referred to as ABP processing plants) in terms of Regulation (EC) no. 1774/2002 which lays down the hygiene rules for certain animal by-products not intended for human consumption (in the following referred to as EU Animal By-products Regulation) with the objective of preventing health risks to humans and animals.

The activities of an ABP processing plant comprise the delivery, collection, transport, storage, treatment, processing and use or disposal of animal by-products (animal carcasses, parts of animal carcasses and products of animal origin).
