Organization: IEEE
Publication Date: 1 January 1972
Status: inactive
Page Count: 12
scope:

This standard covers requirements for switching-impulse voltage insulation strength for outdoor ac high-voltage circuit breakers having rated maximum voltages of 362 kV and above.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to define the special terms used, to provide a rating structure, and to provide a dielectric test procedure. It specifies methods of testing, conditions during tests, and wave shapes to be used for switching-impulse voltage testing. This standard is intended as an addition to the American National Standards for ac highvoltage circuit breakers rated on a symmetrical current basis: C37.03-1964 (R 1969); C37.04-1964 (R 1969); C37.05-1964 (R 1969); C37.06-1971; C37.07-1969; C37.09-1964 (R 1969); C37.010-1964 (R 1969); C37.12-1969; and their supplements.1 It is planned to eventually incorporate its contents in these basic circuit breaker standards.
