Includes: Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT), visible penetrant, solvent removable or water washable, non-aqueous wet developer processes Excludes: Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT)
This document specifies a method for the liquid penetrant testing of steel castings.
The scope of this SAE Information Report is to supply the user with sufficient information so that he may decide whether liquid penetrant test methods apply to his particular inspection problem. Detailed technical information can be obtained by referring to Section 2 .
This standard specifies liquid penetrant testing (hereinafter referred to as test) for metallic materials such as ferrous and nonferrous metal and non-metallic materials such as plastic, glass, ceramic and its product(hereinafter referred to as test piece).
Liquid penetrant examination methods indicate the presence, location and, to a limited extent, the nature and magnitude of the detected discontinuities. Each of the various methods has been designed for specific uses such as critical service items, volume of parts, portability or...
1.1 This test method covers procedures for penetrant examination of materials. They are nondestructive testing methods for detecting discontinuities that are open to the surface such as cracks, seams, laps, cold shuts, laminations, through leaks, or lack of fusion and are applicable to...
1.1 This practice establishes the minimum requirements for conducting liquid penetrant examination of nonporous metal and nonmetal components. Note 1: This practice replaces MIL-STD-6866. 1.2 The penetrant examination processes described in this practice are applicable to...
