This standard specifies mandatory requirements for the design, testing and marking of Unit Loads (ULs) of Ammunition for MOD use, where bulk movement and storage of Ammunition in Unit Loads is required. (Called up within DEFCON 130 -'Packaging for Explosives').
Ammunition ULs (see clause 4.14) come within the definition of 'Overpack' (See clause 4.10) given in the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulations (UN Orange Book) and ADR - which is invoked in the UK Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment 2009 (CDG 2009) as amended by The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment (Amendment) Regulations 2011 SI 2011 No 1885.
This standard does not include detailed information on existing ULs. This may be found in the DES Weapons Operating Centre (WOC) Engineering "MOD Munitions Packaging Database" which can be accessed via the Defence Intranet (DI) (See Par 7.1).
This standard does not include design requirements for Unit Load Containers (ULCs) (See clause 4.15).
This standard does not include requirements for Unit Loads of non-munitions equipment (see DEFCON 129 for non-munitions packaging).
