Purpose of This Notice.

This notice provides guidance to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aviation safety inspectors (ASI) on program policies and procedures related to Specialty Aircraft Examiners (SAE), which are created as a new Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) type. SAEs include Vintage Aircraft Examiners (VAE), experimental aircraft examiners (EAE), Vintage Flight Engineer Examiners (VFEE), Limited Aircraft Examiners (LAE), Sport Pilot Examiners (SPE), and Sport Pilot Flight Instructor Examiners (SFIE). Additional designees may be added to the SAE type if future needs require examiners who do not fit into the traditional DPE types.
