This standard defines the safe working practices for working on or near Signalling Equipment and includes activities such as: inspection; maintenance; fault finding; defect rectification; testing and renewals.
It describes the potential safety risks that can exist for each type of work activity and the safety precautions to be applied to manage those risks.
The standard applies to all staff engaged in the new-works or maintenance of Signalling Equipment.
NOTE: This standard may need to be read in conjunction with NR/L3/SIGELP/50002 when Dead Working needs to be applied or where Signalling Equipment is co-located with Signalling Power Distribution Systems.
Purpose
This standard provides guidance on the potential electrical safety risks that exist when working on or near Signalling Equipment and defines the safety requirements for different work activities. By reviewing the risks of a particular work activity and applying the safety requirements in this standard, work can be pre-planned so that the necessary safeguards are in place for work to be carried out safely.
