scope:
This module details requirements for the following features of the OCS:
• Train service characteristics and operations requirements;
• Characteristics of the electrical power system design;
• Characteristics of the rolling stock;
• Requirements for the current collectors;
• Environmental conditions;
• Asset technical life.
This module is applicable to the modification of, renewal of, or new railway subsystems that impact on the OCS and any work that impacts the integration of the OCS with the corresponding features of other interconnected systems.
This module is applicable to all designers undertaking OCS design for Network Rail.
Purpose
The purpose of this module is to define the fundamental design principles to support development of Overhead Contact System (OCS) system design to meet legislative requirements and to achieve safety, economy and performance. This module acts as the client requirements as obliged in BS EN 50119.
This module provides a common strategy to demonstrate compliance and optimise the design of railway subsystems, but is not intended to reiterate legislation and governing standards
