Organization: DIN
Publication Date: 1 August 2017
Status: active
Page Count: 12
ICS Code (Petroleum products in general): 75.080
scope:

This standard specifies a method for determining the chlorine content in used and unused mineral oils.

The determination is applicable to all mineral oils that are used in biogas, sewage gas and landfill gas engines, as well as marine fuels. The determination is performed by means of optical emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP OES).

Higher and lower concentrations can be measured by adjusting the dilution ratio. Care shall be taken to ensure that the calibration standards are diluted in the same manner.

NOTE For the purposes of this document, "% (m/m)" is used to express the mass fraction of a substance and "% (V/V)" is used to express the volume fraction of a substance.

WARNING - The application of this standard may involve the use of dangerous substances, procedures and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of users of this standard to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and health of personnel prior to application of the standard, and fulfil statutory and regulatory requirements for this purpose.
