Introduction

Network Rail Company Specifications specify the types of sleepers that are to be used for new build according to the track category matrix for the individual route. This Track Work Instruction covers how to decide on the most appropriate type of sleeper when replacing an individual sleeper or very small numbers of sleepers.

This TWI addresses the circumstances where the existing track does not comply with company standards for new build or when the existing sleeper type is no longer available or cannot be supplied.
