Introduction

This Track Work Instruction covers the measurement and definition of the flangeway gap.

A flangeway gap is found wherever a check rail is used on sharply curved plain line curves or in S&C.

Check rails are used to guide the train wheels at locations where there is a risk of them deviating from their correct position relative to the running rails.
