Introduction

This Track Work Instruction covers the replacement of a soleplate on a timber bearer. (If a soleplate on a concrete bearer is damaged it is likely that the bearer will also be seriously damaged.)

Soleplates under switches that are controlled by signallers (as above) can only be replaced with the assistance from qualified signalling staff.

Soleplates in hand operated switches - such as freight or goods yards - do not need the help of signal engineering staff.
