INTRODUCTION

This leaflet presents information on the effects of the vibration environment that may be experienced in propeller aeroplanes arising from the action of the propellers. This information is presented below under the following headings:

Sources and Mechanisms. The processes are described whereby vibration is created by the action of propellers.

Significant Parameters. Parameters are described which influence the character and the severity of the vibration environment.

Description of the Environment. The vibration environment characteristics are described.

Simulation of the Effects of the Environment. Guidance is given on how the effects of the vibration environment can be reproduced for simulation purposes.

Human Effects. Factors are described which may affect the performance and comfort of crew and passengers in propeller aeroplanes.

The information in this leaflet augments that contained in Leaflets 501/2, 501/3, 108/4 and 108/5. Those leaflets contain details and procedures relating to general noise and vibration aspects of fixed wing aeroplanes. This leaflet contains more specific information relating solely to propeller aeroplanes. Consequently, this leaflet should be read in conjunction with Leaflets 501/2, 501/3 (for effects of noise and vibration), and 108/4 and 108/5 (for human effects).
