This International Standard specifies a method for examining samples of solid matter in an aerobic suspension by determining the dehydrogenase activity of Arthrobacter globiformis using the redox dye resazurine. It is suitable for assessing the effect of water soluble and chemical bonded pollutants of natural sample material such as soil, limnic sediment, sludge and waste. The test yields a result within 6 h and can therefore be used for screening potentially contaminated material. This International Standard is applicable to assess material with pH-value above 4.
