Scope and object

This part of IEC 61290 applies to optical fibre amplifiers (OFAs) using active fibres, containing rare-earth dopants, presently commercially available.

The object of this standard is to establish uniform requirements for accurate and reliable measurements, by means of the optical power meter test method, of the following OFA parameters, as defined in clause 3 of future IEC 61291-1:

a) nominal output signal power;

b) large-signal output stability;

c) saturation output power;

d) maximum input signal power;

e) maximum output signal power;

f) input power range;

g) output power range;

h) maximum total output power.

NOTE - All numerical values followed by (+) are currently under consideration
