This specification covers the requirements for a sunscreen lotion resistant interior paint system, water or solvent borne, for laser etch applications. The system, in general, will be a 2 or 3 coating system.
Paint Feel. Paint systems approved to this specification shall be required to carry a type suffix to indicate the type of feel that it has to the human skin. The suffix system shall be as follows:
• Type A …………Soft touch
• Type B …………Fabric Feel
• Type C …………Hard Touch
The extended durability testing in this specification is required for the corporate approval of a new interior paint product. Once corporate approval is given, routine testing of the paint as it is used on parts shall be covered by GM4350M, Class C0 plus oven aging (3.8) and Impact (3.9).
Paint systems, which have been approved on plastics, require validation to parts to be fully approved parts and included in the Approved Paint on Plastics Systems (GM APOPS) database.
Note: If parts are fabricated from prepainted material, the paint film shall be capable of withstanding all the necessary fabrication processes, including forming temperatures, in addition to specified requirements as detailed below without any detrimental appearance or performance changes.
