This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies basic matters and comprehensive system for drafting drawings to be used in field of industry (hereafter referred to as "drawing").

The "drawings", as referred to herein, are those graphically presenting an object on a plane or on a CAD monitor in a prescribed style, and are the means to convey the required information from the designer to the manufacturer, and from the orderer to the acceptor. Further, "drawings" as referred to herein include those reproduced from the original drawing, or those created by reproducing and merging parts of the original drawing, which are equivalent to the original drawing in function.

Drawings of respective fields are specified in other standards as follows:

a) Civil engineering drawings, in JIS A 0101

b) Architectural drawings, in JIS A 0150

c) Technical drawings for mechanical engineering, in JIS B 0001

d) Electrotechnology drawings, in JIS C 1082-1 to JIS C 1082-4
