Use/relationship: The NCIS initiates the nuclear certification process in accordance with Air Force Instruction (AFI) 63-125, Nuclear Certification Program. The NCIS advises AFNWC/NTS that a new weapon system or a change to an existing weapon system, equipment item, software or procedure needs to be evaluated for its impact to the nuclear certification status. The NCIS provides a functional description of the proposed new system or modification and includes the Program Manager's (PM's) evaluation of its potential for nuclear certification impact. If the certification process owners determine the NCIS is insufficient, the process can be delayed.
