PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This document provides guidance for conducting electromagnetic transient modelling and studies covering temporary, slow front, fast front and very fast transient overvoltages to assist operational and network planning and insulation coordination design. It recommends techniques and requirements for modelling the network and plants. It does not explicitly cover models for transient stability studies although its approaches for low frequency overvoltages are valid for such studies.

The material in this document should be viewed as the minimum requirement for electromagnetic transient investigations and studies and therefore international standards, guidance and recommendations, glossary of which is given in the reference section, should be used to supplement its content.
