This Standard applies to the requirements for the clearance of snow and ice from:

a) points;

b) running rails;

c) walkways;

d) cable stiles;

e) conductor rails in depots and sidings.

The operation of sleet trains and de-icing trailer cars is not within the scope of this standard although reference is made to them.

This standard supersedes TE-MTS-1101-A3, TE-MTS-1102-A3 and TE-MTS-1103- A3.

Purpose

The purpose of this Standard is to detail the arrangements to be made in advance of and during cold weather in order to allow the effective performance of snow clearance, ice clearance and related winter maintenance duties to ensure that the track and its related systems, and thereby the train service, are protected from the effects of cold weather.
