scope:
The provisions of this code shall apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, removal and demolition of detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories above grade plane in height with a separate means of egress and their accessory structures not more than three stories above grade plane in height.
Exception:
Existing buildings undergoing repair, movement, alteration or additions and change of occupancy may comply with the 2015 International Existing Building Code. The permit applicant shall make the choice to comply with this code or the 2015 International Existing Building Code at the time of application for the building permit.
Live/work units in one- and two-family dwellings. Live/work units in one- and two-family dwellings, that provide professional services and employ a maximum of one employee within the dwelling in addition to the residents of the dwelling unit, shall be permitted to comply with the requirements of the 2015 International Residential Code portion of the 2018 Connecticut State Building Code.
Live/work units in townhouses. Live/work units located in townhouses and complying with the requirements of Section 419 of the 2015 International Building Code shall be permitted to be constructed in accordance with the 2015 International Residential Code. Fire suppression required by Section 419.5 of the 2015 International Building Code where constructed under the 2015 International Residential Code shall conform to Section P2904.
