This Standard specifies the oxygen deficiency indicator (hereinafter referred to as "oxygen indicator") to be used for the determination and monitoring of oxygen concentration, or for alarm inside wells, vertical shafts, tunnels, pneumatic caissons, pits, manholes, septic tanks, closed conduits, cellars, underground rooms, tanks, boilers, reaction towers, hoppers, silos, warehouses, holds, etc. liable to generate oxygen deficiency.

Further, this Standard is applicable to the oxygen indicator with the operating temperature range of -10°C to 40°C.
