Purpose of this Document

This document sets forth the desired characteristics of Second-Generation Satellite Communications System avionics intended for installation in all types of commercial transport and business aircraft. The intent of this document is to provide general and specific guidance on the form factor and pin assignments for the installation of the avionics primarily for airline use. This document details only the form and fit characteristics of the avionics. The detailed function of each system is not provided. Rather, a summary description of each envisioned system complying with this Characteristic is provided in Section 3.0.
