Scope.

This handbook establishes and describes the manufacturer's identification symbol used in the lot numbers for all DOD contracted manufacture, renovation, or regrouping of ammunition and ammunition components. Manufacturer's identification symbols (MIS) should not be used for commercial purposes. Manufacturer's identification symbols are used only for government application. The usage of manufacturer's identification symbols is defined and described in MIL-STD-1168, Ammunition Lot Numbering and Ammunition Data Card.

This handbook is to be used in conjunction with MIL-STD-1168 Ammunition Lot Numbering and Ammunition Data Card.
