STANDARD METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE DEPLETION OF WOOD PRESERVATIVES IN SOIL CONTACT

active, Most Current
Organization: AWPA
Publication Date: 1 January 2021
Status: active
Page Count: 4
scope:

This standard describes a laboratory method for determining the relative depletion of preservatives from treated wood resulting from physical/chemical reactions during exposure to wet soil.

This laboratory method only provides information on relative losses compared to a reference system under controlled conditions. It does not predict the degree of leaching from commercial products in a natural environment. Wood product dimensions, soil type, amount of rainfall, and many other factors influence biocide depletion rate and may not be fully reflected in this test. Consequently, the inclusion of established wood preservatives as controls for comparative purposes is essential. This test method is intended to be a screening test.
