scope:

Purpose

a. This instruction establishes Department of the Navy (DON) implementation guidance in compliance with references (a) through (p).

b. In respect to the domestic use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in U.S. National Airspace, reference (a) delegates authority to approve certain categories of domestic employment of UAS to the Secretaries of Military Departments, and authorizes select Combatant Commanders to approve certain categories of domestic use of UAS in support of Force Protection (FP) and Defense Support of Civil Authorities Incident Awareness and Assessment (DSCA IAA).
