Requirements for Electrical Testing of Equipment

active, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 14 August 2021
Status: active
Page Count: 24
scope:

This Defence Standard (Def Stan) details the applicable tests of Low Voltage (LV) Naval Electrical Equipment for use on board HM Surface Ships and Submarines. An LV system is defined as one in which all supply voltages are less than 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC

The tests specified herein are primarily for application to prototype and production equipment. When used for equipment which has been repaired, the tests applied are to be in accordance with Clause 5.2.4.

All values of alternating voltages quoted herein are root mean square (RMS) values.

Testing of High voltage (HV) systems is not covered in this Def Stan.

For details of tests applicable to high voltage (HV) equipment, refer to BR 2000(52)(1) and BR 2000(52)(2). Note that an HV system is defined as one in which supply voltages in excess of 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC exist.

For testing of particular electrical equipment reference is to be made to Def Stan 02-629.

For environmental testing of equipment reference is to be made to Def Stan 08-120 and Def Stan 08-123.
