Design and Construction Management in a High Street Environment: System Definition for Roof or Canopy Away From Track

PURPOSE

Roof / Canopy repairs on buildings that are not directly servicing the operational railway incur significantly inflated costs due to engagement of Tier 2 SMEs  operating under contract to a rail sector Tier 1 supplier. This arrangement also restricts the pool of suppliers that can be engaged, often removing the option to use a suppler that is better suited or qualified for the particular repair or replacement that is required (for example engaging directly with a roofing specialist for repairs to a listed building).

This system definition is intended to make it easier for SME's that are not rail sector specific to undertake the necessary steps to work directly with Network Rail as a Tier 1 supplier for the purpose of designing and constructing roof/canopy repair/replacement in a High Street Environment.

In turn, the business will see reductions in cost, may see improvements in design and are likely to experience increased numbers of new entrants.

No further changes are required for the business benefits to be realised.
