Scope and Applicability.

This instruction applies to the development and modification of GWS guided ammunition for use at USN installations and aboard USN ships, whether designed and built by the USN (or developed by other services, private industry, or foreign sources) and whether intended for operational use, testing, training, or transport. This instruction applies to fixed, semi-fixed, and non-fixed GWS guided ammunition and associated components, henceforth known herein as guided ammunition. This instruction does not apply to small caliber guided ammunition (e.g., calibers smaller than 20 mm and 40-mm grenades), guided rockets, and guided missiles. This instruction does not apply ammunition in a research, development, test, and evaluation environment that is not intended for operational use or issue.
