Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations.

Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence.

Purpose/Material Description.

Four (4) grades of autodeposition coatings are available and are defined as Grades B, C, D, and F as follows:

• Grades B and C are zero Volatile Organic Compound(s) (VOC), waterborne materials that oven cure in the range of (100 to 115) °C.

• Grade D is a very low VOC, waterborne material with a cure temperature of (130 to 190) °C.

• Grade F is a very low VOC waterborne material with a cure temperature of (130 to 190) °C.

All grades are generally used without a topcoat. However, compatible topcoats may be used if acceptable performance is verified prior to production usage. Autodeposition should not be specified for aluminum substrates, galvanized steel, or aluminized steel.

• Grades B and C should not be used when components are exposed to service conditions in excess of 120 °C. Components should be evaluated under operating conditions when the service temperature is between (95 and 120) °C.

• Grade C is intended for use at low film build in interior applications that require only moderate corrosion resistance.

• Grade D has improved resistance to fastener chatter.

• Grade F is similar to Grade C with increased gloss level and heat resistance.

Note: On engineering drawings, this standard requires the grade to be designated which defines the performance level for the coating, (see Section 8).

Symbols.

Not applicable.

Applicability.

A black, waterborne autodeposition coating suitable for use on interior bare steel components.

Remarks.

Volatile organic compound (VOC).

• Grades B and C are VOC free.

• Grades D and F must not exceed 25 g/L.
