This module applies to all persons required to undertake work near any HV cable and/or cable route in the Southern Region, both those controlled from the Electrical Control Room (ECR) and the independent uncontrolled systems. 

It applies to all such insulated HV cables, including transmission network operator (TNO), distribution network operator (DNO) supply or other third-party cables on Network Rail (NR) owned property. 

The nature of the work that is to be undertaken in the vicinity of the HV route is defined within the scope of NR/L3/ELP/22001.

This process excludes any assessment in respect of the risk levels regarding live conductor rail, this is defined in NR/L3/MTC/EP0152 or work conducted under NR/L3/ELP/3091. These are conducted separately and in addition to this process if required. 

This process does not include any work undertaken near HV cables on High Speed 1 (HS1).

Purpose

To confirm the process for the assessment and control of risks when working near all high voltage (HV) cables and cable routes in the Southern Region.
