SSPC - PAINT 47
Highly Weatherable Fluoropolymer Topcoat, Performance-Based
Organization: | SSPC |
Publication Date: | 29 December 2020 |
Status: | active |
Page Count: | 6 |
scope:
This standard covers the requirements for a highperformance fluoropolymer topcoat, such as those described in SSPC-TU 12. This coating will provide superior color and gloss retention properties when used as a topcoat over multiple substrates.
Coatings meeting the requirements of this standard are generally suitable for exposures in environmental zones 1A (interior, normally dry), 1B (exterior, normally dry), 2A (frequently wet by fresh water, excluding immersion), 2B (frequently wet by salt water, excluding immersion), 3A (chemical exposure, acidic), 3B (chemical exposure, neutral), and 3C (chemical exposure, alkaline).(1)
The specified coating is intended for application by brush, spray, or roller. It is normally applied over a primer or intermediate coating.
The weathering-related performance requirements of this standard may be met using either accelerated UV data or natural outdoor weathering data, as agreed between the specifier and coating manufacturer. The accelerated UV exposure testing outlined in this standard offers guidance to the specifier on coating performance. Performance results from any particular accelerated UV test method do not necessarily correspond to those from outdoor weathering in south Florida or other locations.
(1) SSPC Environmental Zones are defined in "Using SSPC Coating Standards" available online.
