The scope of this engineering standard covers all areas of telecommunications capability and technical systems used throughout TfL. This standard facilitates the corporate philosophy and principles to be employed to ensure that the whole life asset performance of the telecommunications systems are kept at an optimum operating level.
The philosophy and principles are the foundation of the communications engineering standards and embodies the general principles that govern the approach of TfL to the subject of telecommunications engineering. The philosophy and principles are primarily based on the Customer Experience Standards, and place special emphasis on safety, security, reliability and quality identified by the users of the telecommunications systems on LU.
This standard is the first in a hierarchy of documents to be used for telecommunications systems and equipment. Refer to section 9.2 for the TfL Telecommunications Standards and section 11.1 for the hierarchy.
Purpose
This standard describes the philosophy and principles against which telecommunications capabilities are defined, designed and implemented in support of the business and operational objectives of TfL (Transport for London).
A safe, reliable and secure Telecommunications capability is critical for the delivery of modern mass transport services provided by TfL. The effective delivery of the operational service, as well as general safety and security throughout the corporate organisation. Telecommunications capabilities, via their technical systems are used in a variety of business processes and provide essential communications facing corporate and operational users.
