NR/SIN/211 ISSUE 1

Security of Frauscher Wheel Sensors Associated with Vamos Level Crossings

inactive, Most Current
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 21 October 2022
Status: inactive
Page Count: 19
scope:

The SIN applies to all level crossings fitted with Frauscher wheel sensors as part of the Vamos Miniature Stop Light (MSL) system.

NOTE: Frauscher wheel sensors used for other purposes are outside the scope of this SIN.

A hazard relating to Vamos wheel sensors working as 'strike-out treadles' has been identified.

It is believed that other applications of the Frauscher wheel sensor on Network Rail managed infrastructure are unaffected and hence they are outside the scope of this SIN.

This SIN requires an M24 nut to be tightened to 200 Nm. This differs from the advice in NR/SMS/PartC/AX41.

This is a national escalation of Anglia route SIN: ANG/SIN/003

Purpose

The purpose of this Special Inspection Notice (SIN) is to carry out a post-incident security check on Frauscher wheel sensors associated with Vamos level crossings.
