This document covers the roles of ships' superintendents and identifies a base set of competencies for general, marine and technical topics. It aims to provide guidance for establishing a technical and regulatory competence foundation, to be supplemented by e.g. operational/supplier manuals and system-specific details. Skills related to leadership and communication are relevant but not included in the scope.

Operational scope and detailed knowledge, understanding and performance expectations are defined.
