Targeted Level Crossing Renewals

active, Most Current
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 21 December 2022
Status: active
Page Count: 6
scope:

This Notice Board applies to all level crossing renewals.

It is particularly important to consider the opportunities presented by a targeted level crossing renewal at the asset work bank planning stage as the cost difference between a full renewal and a targeted renewal can be significant. If there is a safety risk that requires urgent intervention, this should be dealt with outside of the renewal process.

Further, more detailed, consideration of the opportunities presented by a targeted level crossing renewal at the early project/scope development stage can enable the scope, cost and deliverability of the project to be further optimised.

Purpose

The purpose of this Notice Board is to:

1) Encourage the consideration of targeted renewal interventions at level crossings, in consultation with all relevant asset owners, as an alternative to a full renewal as part of work bank and project planning activities where safe and appropriate to do so

2) Provide guidance on the circumstances where targeted renewal interventions may be appropriate

3) Provide guidance on the practical application of a targeted approach to level crossing renewals.
