PURPOSE

In many cases, the building shell of a new station is constructed by a Tier 2 SME operating under contract to a rail sector Tier 1 supplier.

Engaging with the rail sector Tier 1 supplier understandably adds cost to the overall project. In conjunction with its appendices, this system definition has been designed to make it easier for SME's that are not rail sector specific to undertake the necessary steps to work directly with Network Rail as a Tier 1 supplier for the purpose of designing and constructing station shell in a High Street Environment.

In turn, the business will see reductions in cost and may see improvements in design and increased numbers of new entrants to the supply chain.

No further changes are required for the business benefits to be realised.
