Introduction
In this type of track circuit, a.c. at 50Hz is fed to the rails from a feed unit, and at the relay end another unit converts the a.c. into d.c. and applies it to a standard relay.
This arrangement gives a quick release characteristic: drop away being achieved in a matter of milli-seconds.
