Introduction
A cable is a wire (or group of wires) with sufficient insulation and protection to make it fairly thick and robust. Multicore cables contain several wires within the one casing. These are a convenient way of running a number of wires to the same place.
Wires and cables come in many different types. In most cases the particular type to be used is specified in the wiring drawings or in standard instructions. The following sections describe the basic principles involved.
