Signalling Design Handbook: Level Crossings - Manually Controlled Barriers with Obstacle Detection

active, Most Current
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 2 December 2023
Status: active
Page Count: 129
scope:

This module defines the application requirements and describes the operating characteristics for a Manually Controlled Barrier Level Crossing with Obstacle Detection (MCB-OD).

For interfacing with the block signalling the requirements are based on the use of lineside signals. Although the document acknowledges the existence of movement authorities for in cab signalling it does not provide any specific requirements for these systems.

This document applies to all who are making changes to Network Rail managed level crossings that are or are to become MCB-ODs.

Purpose

The purpose of this module is to:

 a) support the management of risks at MCB-OD level crossings;

 b) provide consistency in the application and operation of MCB-OD level crossings.
