scope:
All scenarios requiring the disconnection and subsequent reconnection of signalling equipment in association with emergency and temporary speed restrictions are included.
As the process covers maintenance responsibilities only, the process for disconnection and subsequent reconnection of signalling equipment in association with emergency and temporary speed restrictions by any function other than maintenance is not covered. Reference should be made to the individual functions procedures for details of their process.
This procedure is part of a suite of documents; reference should be made to the applicable document:
• NR/L3/SIG/SG0093. Signalling equipment affected by emergency and temporary speed restrictions
• NR/L3/SIG/MG0110. Imposition and removal of emergency and temporary speed restrictions.
• NR/L3/SIG/SG0111. Design of emergency and temporary speed restrictions.
This procedure will only apply to those post holders who are involved in any aspect of the initiation or removal of an emergency or temporary speed restriction for maintenance purposes. Individual role and position responsibilities for this procedure are detailed in the RACI.
Purpose
This procedure details the process for situations where the imposition of an emergency or temporary speed restriction will result in existing signalling warning equipment (e.g. automatic warning systems or automatic train protection) giving contrary or misleading indications to the driver of an approaching train to that of the warning system associated with the speed restriction.
