This Defence Standard sets out the principles that are required for the design, assessment, testing and use of electrical circuits and software in systems which incorporate or control explosive components. The methods and techniques the Ministry of Defence (MOD) will use when assessing the safety of such circuits and software are also given together with recommendations on safety margins and trials factors. The standard also identifies the electrical and electromagnetic environments and the nature of the problems involved in the design and operation of systems with Electro-Explosive Device (EED).

This part identifies the analysis of firing circuits containing EED, safety margins, theoretical analysis and trials techniques.
